The inspiration @djfreedem has laid before the plant community is real! @rachelpimm is one individual trying to step up and contribute in a way others don’t. I ask the people of the UK 🇬🇧 that you tag your LOCAL and favourite plant shops… let’s call on those we love and support to see if they’re willing to contribute towards black peoples wellbeing. SEND BLACK PEOPLE PLANTS. it’s not rude it’s based on the fact that horticulture is inaccessible to those who enriched the land with knowledge and continue to do so.
As a black trans person living in a flat in Leeds UK I can tell you a thing or two about accessibility, I personally made myself poor to purchase a variegated monstera because the chances of me getting one were slimmer than my ankles, it is a privilege to have access to things others don’t and I’d like to share the joy plants bring.
I’m calling on the plant spaces to do better this isn’t just about me but let’s start something great, I need you to show the community that you see us and you want to contribute towards our happiness. I will be discussing an @undergroundplant.trade for the uk if god hears my calling. But for now what are you going to do? FYI a Monstera Adansonii, Sansevieria Moonshine and a Dracaena Lemon and Lime are on my wish list. #reparations and to any UK black based plantagrammers, if you see a cutting you’d like on my page let me know.
